Dear 100th BGF Member:

Thank you for your membership in and continued support of the 100th Bomb Group Foundation and of our obligation not only to preserve the stories of service and sacrifice but to educate the world more about the men, missions and machines of The Bloody Hundredth.

We have exciting news to share – and we want you to be the first to know. We have a permanent home!

The Foundation has finalized an agreement with the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force to completely reimagine the current 100th Bomb Group Foundation exhibit and greatly expand our footprint within this fantastic destination and educational resource in Pooler, GA.

We have maintained an exhibit at the Museum since its opening 25 years ago. Our future exhibit will be part of the Museum’s combat gallery that houses the painstakingly restored B-17 “The City of Savannah.” The Museum is located only minutes outside of downtown Savannah, the birthplace of the Mighty 8th Air Force in which the 100th Bomb Group served. Many of you may recall the Museum was the site of our 2013 Reunion.

The Foundation has also engaged a leading exhibit design firm whose work is recognized worldwide. The Hettema Group has created remarkable museum projects, both domestically and internationally. They have gained recognition for their innovative, informative and extraordinarily immersive exhibits that enthrall visitors with new levels of exciting experiences. Hettema’s work can be found in institutions such as the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, The Russian Jewish Museum in Moscow, and the National World War II Museum at New Orleans. Through close collaboration, your Foundation, Hettema and the Museum are committed to providing every 100th Bomb Group exhibit visitor with an educational and engaging experience.

The Bloody Hundredth’s story will be presented within the larger context of 8th Air Force history. Members of the design team have deep family ties to other units of the Mighty 8th and bring their personal passions and intimate knowledge to our project. Preliminary planning has already begun. As designs unfold, we will share those with our membership and also let you know how you can help with this exciting and worthy project.

As part of our agreement with the Museum, we are thrilled to announce that our Foundation’s collection of 100th Bomb Group artifacts, uniforms, documents and other materials will be housed within their professionally managed and secure archives. Our vast collection will be available on loan to complement the Museum’s collection of over 12,000 artifacts; 92,000 photographs; 1,100 oral histories; and 10,000 published works.

More exciting news about this and several other Foundation activities will be included in your Spring 2021 issue of Splasher Six newsletter.

With deepest appreciation,

The 100th Bomb Group Foundation Board of Directors
